Tesla Suddenly Shuts Down in 40℃ Heat, Owner Almost Suffocates
Recently, a Tesla owner reported that he was driving a Tesla Model X in the mountains and almost suffocated in the car. At the time, there was high temperature weather of over 40 degrees Celsius outside, and the vehicle suddenly shut down completely, the doors could not be opened, and restarting did not work. He then pulled the door handle hard and pushed out a small gap, miraculously saving his own life with great effort. Later, the owner called for help, and an hour later, an ambulance arrived and rescued him.
According to publicly available materials from the owner, Tesla's customer service center replied that the accident was caused by the sudden loss of power in the small battery of the Tesla Model X, causing the electric suction door to lock and unable to open the door. The battery needs to be replaced at its own expense.
However, the owner questioned this failure: "The system failure did not warn me of abnormal battery conditions. It suddenly failed when I entered the car, causing me to be locked in the car. How to deal with the loss of my delayed journey and the life-threatening danger that almost occurred? How to avoid this situation from happening again in the future? Who is responsible for breaking the window if this accident happens again and is locked?"
Subsequently, the owner updated the news and confirmed that the cause of the failure was a 12V small battery failure. He explained that the 12V small battery has a lifespan of about one and a half to two years and must be replaced. If it is parked for a long time without driving, its lifespan will be even shorter. Normally, if there is an abnormality in the virtual power of a small battery, there will be an alarm prompt, and it must be immediately checked and replaced, but this sudden occurrence did not remind him. In the end, the owner reached an agreement with the service center to promise to handle the vehicle properly and send it back.
Tesla specifically pointed out that all Tesla models are equipped with physical door opening mechanisms for doors. Taking Model 3 and Model Y as examples, physical door opening mechanisms are located on both sides of the front row doors in front of window switches. In an emergency situation, owners can pull up to open the door. This function was tested normally after company personnel arrived at the scene.
"Since the day of the incident, we have been actively communicating with customers to negotiate and resolve vehicle maintenance matters. We explained to customers how to use physical door opening mechanisms and actively assisted and cooperated with vehicle maintenance matters." Tesla seems to have tactfully stated that it was because the owner does not know how to use physical door opening devices.
